The World She Longs For

Sundays by the Sea, Hearts in Sync

By Charmaine AbrahamsPublished about 2 hours ago 3 min read

It’s early Sunday afternoon. We have just had such a tranquil walk on the beach, with the dogs.

We arrive home. I unlock the door while he closes the gate, so the dogs can’t get out. As I unlock the door, I still hear the waves crashing. Home is just a stones throw away from the beach.

The dogs go straight to their water bowls, my poor babies are so thirsty. Well, that walk would have done it.

Barry’s voice echoes in the background. I respond to the echo of his voice and say, won’t be too long. He plonks himself on the white couch and switches on the box. A sound travels to my dressing room, it’s the sound of relaxing dog music.

Freshened up, I sashay down the hallway and into the living room. He turns and looks to me. “that’s new right? Yes, it arrived last week. He responds, “You look great darling.”

The dog’s now settled, with all their goodies at their disposal. We pet them accompanied by loving words and close the door behind us.

Barry is driving, I have the window down, gosh it’s humid. He puts his left hand on my thigh, he always does this when driving. I think it brings him comfort. I put my hand on his, as we drive along, listening to our Sunday playlist. Everything just feels right.

We arrive at one of our favourite restaurant’s. We tend to go here on a Sunday. He parks the car. His parking is definitely way better than mine. “All set?”, Yep. He knows I love his driving, in fact it turns me on. He leans in and as I feel his his soft lips, gently touch mine, I feel our souls connect.

We make our way to the front entrance and casually walk in. I can feel his hand firmly placed on my lower back. The ambience here is always so relaxed and has such serene vibe, exactly what we like on a Sunday afternoon.

The waitress takes us to our table. We’re nestled in a corner overlooking the deep blue water. It’s so picturesque. I’m soaking in this moment right now, with gratitude. Bailey comes back over and asks to take our order. I order an Iced Chai Tea to start and my usual from the lunch menu. Barry orders a Mocktail and goes for the Seafood Platter.

I look out into the ocean and smile inside. This feeling externalizes and makes its way to my face. I must have been smiling from ear to ear because the waitress says, “always smiling.” I turn and say, you know me and chuckle.

My Iced Chai Tea is bloody yummy. Barry, how is your Cucumber Mint Cooler? “Just perfect, darling, just perfect”. Yay, our food has arrived. Tucking in nicely, the conversation is flowing.

Mid conversation I say, I did something. “Uh oh, what now?” Remember, we were looking at that travel video the other day after I made you watch Letters to Juliet(grinning). “Continue…..” Well, it’s happening. We’re going to Verona, Valpolicella and Lake Garda. I cover my face and then do a peakaboo. “Darling, you’re incredible. When are we flying out?” It’s all arranged and we fly out the beginning of September. “You timed that very well” I know right! Just knowing you had your seasonal closure then, I felt it to be fitting. I just thought, why not?! We keep talking about it, but no more.(grinning) He looks so happy.

He gets up and kisses me on the forehead. There it is again, our soul connection, so deep, just magic.
