Life will find a way
One cocoon twitches; my screaming must have disturbed it. It’s followed by a sound like the shaking of a cobra’s tail. A dry rattle sends a shiver down my spine. The rest of the cocoons respond the same way, as if communicating with one another; the cave fills with rattling. The glow becomes stronger as they vibrate and bathes the cave floor in an eerie blue light.

Valentine's Dates Over the Years
Colin grinned as Brooklyn slipped into the living room. “Is it all set?” he asked. The twenty-one year old grinned. She was in her last year of college and Colin knew that Lincoln was proud of her. Although she had been away at college, she’d eagerly helped Colin plan his surprise for Lincoln. “I’m so glad you’re finally doing this,” she said.

The Cave Part 6
If you have ever heard a tale about yourself that you cannot remember and doubtless think is made up, you will know how I felt when Tharkin related all that the eagle had seen of me before my memories were scattered. Of far distances and traveling companions that I did not recall, camping out under the stars and making our way to the mountains with deliberate purpose. The great bird had lost contact with my party once we entered the forests, and the seven other members were not seen again by him or his brethren since.

3:10 to Ingoldmells, Chapter Three
Flashsatsumas had at least had the foresight to bring an emergency medical kit. Having groped his way deliriously to it along the forecourt he’d now thrown open the small satchel and was treating himself, in both senses of the word. So Maureen sat and watched bemused, as far above her head a plastic automaton contorted hugely in some sort of bid to acclimatise itself to existence, while her friend in his tangerine rubber sundress shovelled down slices of death-by-chocolate one after another.

3:10 to Ingoldmells, Chapter Two
On leaving the joke shop Pat led Juniper a short way to a district which he said was perfect for what they had in mind, though she was out of her depth as to why. There was a building whose double-door was made of elaborately carved wood and covered just the middle part of the doorway, through which only adult spectres seemed permitted to pass. This they were doing in extremely jolly fashion, whilst outside was a contrivance more outlandish still to Mini-Flash Juniper. Roofed by an awning it was wide rather than high, and populated by lurching mannequins which bawled a steady incoherent spiel. Child-phantoms were popping ineffectually away at these with guns far larger and cruder still than the one Juniper had purchased, and to all appearances enjoying the experience heartily.

Tattoos & Rail Guns Chapter 21: The Chaos Becomes Order
Kev grabbed a gargoyle and tossed it just outside the circle of dogs while kicking another. The third clawed him across the belly, leaving deep wounds. Kev hit the one he had kicked, stunning it. The one tossed outside jumped back into the fray. Kev's wounds began healing, but he would not be able to keep up with the damage for long.

Tattoos & Rail Guns Chapter 22: Last Minute Preparations
Lieutenant Sawyer was not the only one who had grabbed a quick shower and meal. Rodriguez had gone off to grab a drink or two; he wouldn't get drunk until the mission was over. Samuels had of course disappeared as quickly as possible; his supposed girlfriend had to see him every night or she would call the barracks incessantly; his going to her was a mercy to everyone else. Rodriguez had never met her; it was Samuels’ business so he didn’t pry. Kev had been dismissed but would be summoned as soon as there was a plan.

Glass Winter | Chapter XVI
Within those feverish dreams Mal lived for a thousand nights, only to awaken mere hours after he had fallen asleep. Revelation phased in and out, clear as ice but forgotten in moments. He tried to grab hold of its essence, just strong enough to hold on. Any weaker and it would float away, any stronger and it would dissolve in his hands. In his dream he never saw his hands.
