Fauxperts

The Horribly Toxic Cycle We Are Allowing To Consume Our World

By Dr. Cody Dakota Wooten, DFM, DHM, DAS (hc)Published about 13 hours ago 4 min read

I am really tired of this...

When did it become so cheap to become an "expert"?

Or perhaps another way of asking is...

When did becoming an "expert" become worthless?

What I mean is that there are "so" many people who claim to be "experts" in today's world...

Who really do not know anything.

Not even within their field of "expertise".

If you were to do even a "little" bit of research...

You would discover that what they talk about...

Is worthless.

Often not even true.

They are fake experts...

Fauxperts.

They sound really good.

They might have the right "look".

They even have established a cult following...

Sometimes literally.

But...

They do not really teach anything of value...

They are not able to get consistent results in their work...

They use models and ideas that they do not really understand and are just parroting from others they "heard" from...

They have all the confidence of someone who appears to know things...

Yet...

If you actually take time to look into it...

All of it is worthless.

Their knowledge is filled with "truthiness" without any validity in reality.

Their marketing utilizes short-term hacks and emotional hijacking to appear great while hiding the fact that the results do not last...

Sometimes becoming worse than where individuals started.

They lie and slander against anyone who has a different perspective.

Even how they became an "expert"...

Often is cheap.

They got it from "life experience," which is actually extremely shallow.

They got it from a "certificate" that took a weekend to attain.

They got it from a "system" which they purchased as a white-label service.

They got recognition from "another" Fauxpert whom they paid.

What boggles my mind in all of this...

Is the fact that good information has become "easier" to obtain...

Yet...

Our standards for "expertise" have dropped to embarrassing levels.

You can get the same type of education that used to take decades, apprenticeships, and travel to obtain in significantly less time today...

Yet Fauxperts will not even put in a fraction of the amount of time to do "that", and have the audacity to say they have absolutely mastered something.

Are we not tired of this?

Shouldn't we have at least some personal standards?

Instead of being seduced by Fauxperts who really have no reason to be talking about anything with authority?

Even worse...

Many of these Fauxperts do not even need to do the bare-minimum work themselves to grow their "expertise"...

Because they are outsourcing it to AI.

So not only do they fail to have any real expertise...

But they are allowing AI to be the "expert" for them...

And they are then just taking that to make content faster...

Without even knowing whether the AI has given them any semblance of the truth...

Or if the AI is undergoing hallucinations and sycophancy.

In fact...

Because they do not even have a basic level of understanding of their industry...

They wouldn't be able to verify whether the AI was correct or not...

Because they do not have any real expertise.

They have not taken the time to actually learn...

To gain the experience and wisdom required...

To know whether or not what they are producing and putting into the world actually works.

They couldn't know.

They are Fauxperts.

We are coming to a junction in the world...

Where, if we are not careful...

Real experts are going to become lost in the minutia of excrement that is flooding the world.

Between Fauxperts who are flooding the internet with uninformed, and false, ideas...

And AI, which learns from that flood of information...

Which is becoming more and more "created" by AI...

Which has already led to problems like the "Piss Average Problem" and other AI Model Collapse issues now that over 50% of the internet is AI-generated...

We are risking losing "real" expertise and "quality" information.

What happens...

When everyone...

Begins to consistently hear and listen to this Fauxpert information?

We begin to fall into the trap of repetition bias, or "illusory truth effect"...

Authority bias from the "perceived" but undeserved status of Fauxperts...

Confirmation bias, which then blinds us from even considering alternative possibilities...

Followed by the Sunk Cost Bias, where we have dedicated so much of our time and effort into "believing" something...

That we continue to dedicate more time and effort to it...

Even when we have plenty of evidence to "know" it cannot be true...

Yet we follow it anyway, attempting to use our logic to convince ourselves otherwise...

Like how if "so" many people "follow" this Fauxpert, it "must" be true...

Or that with so many "testimonials," it "must" be true...

Even if these Fauxperts "paid" to gain that level of followership, and their testimonies are all obtained by purposefully misusing human psychophysiology.

Worse...

We then will begin to blame "ourselves" for things not working...

Often, with the Fauxperts using emotional, mental, and even spiritual manipulation to further convince us of this.

Is that really the future that we want?

Is this how we want our lives to become consumed?

Isn't it time for all of us to raise our standards a bit?

Don't we deserve more than this fate?

In a time where technology has improved to incredible levels...

And information has become easier to obtain...

Why should we allow people to call themselves "experts"...

When they have not actually "done" anything that would be worthy of being called an expert.

I understand that people need opportunities to grow and demonstrate their abilities...

Everyone who has gained real expertise has had to go through the gambit to earn their expertise...

But it does not make any sense to lower the qualifications to allow nearly anyone to call themselves an "expert"...

Especially when, in doing so, we cheapen every ounce of information that exists in the world...

To the point where it "literally" becomes worthless.

Do not fall prey to the growing number of Fauxperts that exist...

And start looking into what "real" qualifications people have before accepting them as experts.
