A Slow News Day

Say it Plainly.

I long for a slow news day.

You know the kind.

-

A story about a dog that behaves like a person.

A day when death and destruction are treated as serious events, not constant background noise.

I want a slow news day that is not filled with stories about royals, celebrities, and their relationships.

A story about a woman dancing the hokey cokey because she felt happy.

The kind of stories local news was made to cover.

-

I want a slow news day because I am tired of hearing about violence, war, and suffering every hour.

I want a slow news day where children are not starving.

Where children are not afraid.

Where children can play outside safely.

I want a slow news day where there is no abuse, no exploitation, and no fear in the streets.

I want a slow news day because the current news makes me feel helpless and angry.

-

I want a day filled with news where people were actually nice to one another.

Where distrust and dislike are not based on birth, gender, political views, or sexual interest.

I do not care what music you like.

I do not judge Creed or Nickelback.

I am an adult.

Are you?

Can you breathe the same air as someone different from you

Without wanting them dead?

-

I am not your romantic saviour.

I am not a self-obsessed bohemian.

I am a man with a mind that does not stop.

It works and it makes me write.

I write like it is the last thing I will do.

-

Plainly they say.

But do they really mean it?

But plainly, do they really want it?

Do they really want plain?

Direct and unfiltered?

Do they want no holds barred?

-

With a sex offender president.

A dull and cowardly prime minister.

Several avoidable, pointless wars.

Several avoidable, pointless attacks.

Sieges and devastation.

No oil or territory is a meaningful reason for bloodshed.

-

Fuck.

This.

World.

Oof this is a little too true. I don't know if I can even remember slow news days. That said, I gave up watching the news entirely recently. It's just slowly teaching that your voice means nothing and puts me in such a state of stress. I can't help anyone that way. Ah, I could go off on the state of the news almost as much as the administration. Which I guess here are slowly becoming one and the same. Bleh, fantastic poem anyway!! I too want good news and normal times. At least, I want to see it broadcast because I know good things are out there!

I saw a news story where a girl was dancing and someone called the police on her for "suspicious behavior". That's suspicious... but a whole island of pedophiles with claims of cannibalism and there's "nothing to see hear". I don't watch the news anymore. Everything I learn these days is mostly against my will. I've seen enough. Wonderful piece. I know it will place! :)

Yes. I just saw a news report where fire fighters saved 4 cats by performing CPR. It made me tear up.

This is excellent! Plainly said with such a strong VOICE. And I could relate in so many ways. Bravo.
