Lilith doesnโ€™t hide her magic

Lilith doesnโ€™t fear the dark

Lilith goes where she is needed

Where her creation needs a spark

*

Youโ€™d think, after a thousand years

That sheโ€™d be tired or afraid

But Lilith doesnโ€™t shirk her task.

She knows just for what she was made

*

Lilith has a magic way

Of knowing where youโ€™ve hid your fear

She excavates the parts of you

Whose dying breath was almost near

*

She helps you see that to be whole

Is better than to just belong

But by her side, youโ€™ll have that too.

For every woman knows her song

*

Lilith comes to light the fire

Lilith comes to own the night

Her spirit is your soulโ€™s desire

Sheโ€™s your truth, spoken outright

*

She comes to you when youโ€™re afraid

To hold you, and then set you freeโ€“

All she wants is what you want.

To be yourself, and blessed be

I've always been so fascinated with Lilith! I enjoyed this poem so much!

  • This reminds me of the re-imagining conference with United Methodist Women held a few decades back where they worshiped God using the name "Sophia". Traditionalists went ballistic, accusing them of heresy in spite of the fact that everything they used, said & did was thoroughly biblical. Sophia is the name of God's wisdom in the Septuagint (Hochmah, in the Biblical Hebrew), so prevalent in Proverbs. Certainly every bit as biblical as Father, Spirit, Rock, Mother Hen/Eagle or the Rock which gave us birth. (Oops, they don't like those last three, either, no matter how many times they sing "On Eagle's Wings".) In case you couldn't tell, I love this poem.
