You smile as if the world is kind,

Yet shadows gather just behind,

A flicker there you cannot hide,

A deeper truth you keep inside.

Your lips may curve, your eyes may shine,

But something there does not align,

A fracture running through the light,

A hidden edge beneath the bright.

I saw it once, I see it still,

A quiet hint of something ill,

Not madness loud, nor anger wild,

Just something cold behind the mild.

You laugh, and others turn away,

Believing all you choose to say,

But I have watched the silence fall,

And felt the weight beneath it all.

No mask can hold forever tight,

No false can stand against the night,

And in that dark, your truth will grow,

A thing you fear, yet always show.

You carry more than you admit,

A flame that never truly quit,

It burns beneath your careful grace,

And leaves its mark upon your face.

I do not judge what I can see,

For darkness lives in you and me,

But yours has found a subtle way,

To dance beneath the light of day.

you hide, and though you play,

It leaks through cracks you cannot stay,

A truth too strong to stay concealed,

A wound that will not stay unsealed.

So smile again, and turn away,

Pretend that all is calm, and stay,

But know that some can always tell,

The quiet signs you wear too well.

For in that curve, so soft, so small,

The darkness shows, it tells it all,

A silent echo, deep and wide,

Of all the things you keep inside.
