Remembering Kobe Bryant
I played basketball for 8 years. During that time Kobe was my least favorite player. Because he was so good, and only ever played for the Lakers, my least favorite team. I knew no matter what he never had an off night, and he was going to do everything he could to get the win.

The Real Boy
LIARS R US You, my friends, are LIARS! Don’t get offended or too hasty, because I did call you my friends first. I’m a LIAR TOO! We all are. Our parents lied, our grandparents lied and our kids will follow suit. Our leaders, politicians, and preachers all lie. The billboards, the banks, and everything on the News. Our Businesses, the scientists, and even your boss too! ALL LIARS! If anyone has ever told you that they don't lie, it is a lie! This is not to pass judgement on anyone. I can assure you that my “liar-pants” have been on fire for 36 years. No, this is more of a cordial invite to a dinner party. The main course: TRUTH sirloin marinated in homemade LIES with a side of GOSPEL gravy. It can be a little tough to chew at times, but we still cook it to perfection. No need to R.S.V.P., because it's cooked in your own kitchen.

Carmel Hell Week
It was a week unlike any other. My sisters relayed the stories to me. They spoke of videos of guns and ammunition, a girl being attacked in a bathroom, brawls in the hallways, a stampede of terrified students fleeing into the surrounding neighborhoods, and a perplexing message about puppies and "3.5 seconds" from the school's principal.

What to Know About Your Cup of Joe
I never thought I could like coffee. I always thought it was bitter black bean water that stained teeth and clothes. My parents don’t even drink coffee. Growing up we had one small container of coffee grinds that was hidden on the top shelf in the pantry - at the very back, of course. We would bring it out only a few times a year when we had a full house of guests during the holidays. We would clean out a dusty coffee maker that my parents got as a wedding gift and serve our guests three-year-old stale coffee in a rusting pot.  I don't know how they could stomach it, or even worse, ask for a second cup.

Bury Me Then Plant a Tree
Within the Philippines, deep in South Sulawesi, there is a grove of Tarra trees that have strange little patch marks going up and down their trunks. They look like a roof thatching carved into the side of the tree. Behind those patches is a morbid tradition that I find fascinating, disturbing, and beautiful all at once. This is something I discovered by accident and yet I cannot unlearn now that I know it. I am debating if I will adapt this idea into the novels, because it definitely fits my fantasy world’s religion. My fantasy world is not based on facts though. So here is my obscure truth and how I discovered it.
